If you’re thinking of relocating you and your family to North Cyprus, retiring to here or just changing your life and moving here to look for new opportunities, here are a few tips that may help you make the move easier.

If you come from an EU country are EU citizens and therefore have an EU passport you’re free to enter the country without a applying for a visa in advance.  When you enter North Cyprus from the airport or one of the border crossings from the South of the island, you’ll receive an entry stamp in your passport or on your visa form and this allows you to remain in the country for 90 days from that date of entry. Within these 90 days you should begin official registration proceedings to allow the governments of North Cyprus to know who you are and that you’re here and want to become a temporary resident of Northern Cyprus.

The registration process is not a difficult process however; it does involve visits to different government offices, a basic medical test at local medical centre or local hospital and quite a lot of form filling and stamps.  When you come to live in North Cyprus you’ll quickly meet a lot of friendly expats and locals alike, who will take the time to show you the process, if you’re at all concerned about the process, then you can get in touch with the British Resident’s Society as they can personally assist you. There are also a number of other organizations and individuals in North Cyprus that can help you through the process very quickly as well as given you piece of mind.

If you’re thinking of moving to Northern Cyprus lock, stock and barrel and need to relocate your household contents and motor vehicle, you should consider employing a reputable removal company offering you a door to door service.  This cuts down on costs, and it definitely reduces your hassle, as moving to another home can be quite stressful at the best of times.  It will mean that your container with all its contents inside arrives at your new home sealed and intact. There are a number of reputable removal companies that can take all the stress away and do all the hard work for you.

Once your container is about to arrive in Famagusta  port you will need to go to the main police station in Lefkosia (Nicosia) and get your ‘ins and out’ papers.  This is just a record of the number of times you’ve been in and out of Northern Cyprus prior to relocating.  Make sure you take your passports with you and have some stamps handy (normal 1 TL stamps that you can buy from the local post office, if you buy about 15 TL stamps you’ll have more than enough for the whole import process.

Next its time to go to customs in Nicosia with your in and out certificate, your passport, a list of your container’s contents must be translated into Turkish (if you go with a door to door reputable removal company they’ll provide you with everything you need to take with you, some companies do this all for you) and you will need lots more stamps plus a couple of photocopies of all of your documents and passport. You’ll be asked a few questions about the contents of your container just to make sure it contains used domestic goods and then you can import the whole lot tax free. You will have to pay a standard fee of around £10 per Television in import tax duties. Again all of this can be taken care of if you use a reputable removal company, as they do all the hard work for you.
