A Golfer’s Paradise at Esentepe

Esentepe Golf course. A PASSION for golf but are tired of the wet British weather? Always wanted to putt like a pro but the rain has put a dampener on those golfing lessons? Then take your hobby to a place with the perfect all-year-round golfing climate – North Cyprus.

Admittedly, Northern Cyprus is not the obvious golfer’s getaway but the North is in fact host to a fabulous 18 hole championship course courtesy of the Korineum Golf and Beach Resort in Esentepe. Opening in 2007, the Korineum is the first of its kind on this side of the island and still in relative infancy, now is the perfect time to discover this hidden gem.

Located on the coast, at the foot of the famous Besparmak mountains at Esentepe, the Korineum boasts all the features of a top class golf club together with a luxury boutique hotel to rival any international five-star resort.

Its golfing facilities are suitable for players of all standards and ages with a six-kilometer 18 hole golf course, par 72, deluxe silent electronic golf buggies to take you the full distance and a brand-stocked Pro-shop to transform amateurs into stylish professionals.

Carved from the remnants of ancient olive groves and pine forest, the 18 hole course is naturally undulating and decorated with a combination of carob, olive and pine trees. The hills and plains are spotted with strategically placed bunkers and challenging water hazards, sympathetically bridging the gap between nature and technical necessity.

The real visual highlight, however, is the spectacular sea view across the Mediterranean to one side of the course, with breathtaking views of the magnificent five-finger mountain range on the other. There is simply no better place to potter around a golf course, taking in the stunning natural beauty of the surrounding area and soaking up the glorious Cypriot sunshine between strokes.

And for those who require some practice before they hit the holes, the Golf Academy at Korineum is fully equipped with a 300 metre 34 bay driving range including state-of-the-art golf swing technology; a large grass tee practice area for touch and feel shots; two putting greens; one chipping/pitching green; dedicated bunkers; and a cafe bar where you can relax after practicing.

The Academy course itself has full length 5, 4 and 3 par holes to warm up regardless of handicap status.

For those starting from scratch or simply wanting to improve their swing, golf lessons are available individually or as a package from a resident PGA qualified pro. The Academy offers a wide range of learning packages ideal for groups of friends, family or individual tuition and there are summer golf camps for the junior player with workshops for young talent.

The Academy also hosts a variety of fun golf events such as the Longest Drive Competition, Academy Skills Challenge and much more.

And the sporting fun doesn’t end there. For alternative outdoor recreation, guests can opt for a spot of tennis on one of the four high-quality clay courts or a refreshing swim in the resort’s relaxation pool before catching some rays.

For indoor recreation, the fitness center is great for an energizing workout followed by a luxurious massage or beauty treatment in the hotel’s spa and wellness center.

At the end of either a satisfyingly sporty day or a gloriously lazy day, the à la carte restaurant and some classical live music is on the Korineum menu.
